“The New School is more than a school – it’s a loving community that embraces and helps people grow and find their place in the world”.
Cassie Sears, TNS Graduate
The New School strives to make tuition affordable. In addition to offering two tiers of tuition, financial aid and scholarships are awarded as available.
In 2016-2017, full tuition is $12,600.00. (This is well below the $27,800 that is the average for private high schools in Maine.) Families who pay full tuition are required to attend monthly All School Meetings and assist with two fundraising events during the year.
Families may choose to reduce their tuition by $3,000, to $9,600. To receive reduced tuition a family must attend monthly All School Meetings, participate on a committee that contributes to the viability of the school, and assist with fundraising events and activities. We often find ways to accommodate the schedules of parents who are unable to make regular committee meetings or attend a particular fundraising event — for instance, they might assist with a mailing at home.
The New School is a “High School of Choice” for the towns of Arundel and Acton. State average tuition (approx. $9,600) is paid by those towns. Parents are responsible for the additional $3,000 in the form of payment or work done for the school (see Reduced Tuition above). Parents must notify their school department that their child will be attending The New School.
There is a limited amount of financial aid available each year, and some scholarship support as well. Requests are generally submitted to the Finance Committee prior to the start of the school year.
