This program is designed to help young actors to develop strong, well-rounded and relatable characters. We will take an in-depth look at character development, motivations and their relationships with other characters. Members of Act Out will be exploring improvisation, theater games, scene study, monologues, stage makeup application and how sound supports a script. This program will also provide a hands-on experience in stagecraft, set design and costumes. Act Out will showcase their works at the end of the two weeks in a student designed final production.

Josie-lynn Perkins has been acting since the age of eight. Josie She received her formal training in the BA Musical Theatre program at Point Park University’s Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Pittsburgh, PA. From urban streets to the uncharted woodland game paths of rural Maine, come adventure with us as we explore and learn the finer points of both city and wilderness navigation and survival. With the use of road maps, satellite imagery, and of course compasses and natural navigational icons like the sun and stars, our expedition will begin in the more modern world of man-made constructions and culminate with an overnight under the Maine summer skies. Bug spray and a willingness to get a little dirty are necessary, along with an excitement to explore the local areas with new-found perspectives.  As a traveling actress, Josie performed in venues of various shapes and sizes from Maine to California — with dozens of curtain calls along the way — with only her fellow thespian and an overstuffed, costumes and set filled van and no GPS or cell phone. Amber is an outdoor enthusiast and certified Wilderness First Aid responder with a love of all things wild and natural. This dynamic team of camp counselors utilizes their experience as teachers in the classroom to connect, engage, and broaden the horizons of youth beyond the confines of brick and mortar.

Dinner, dessert, and breakfast the following day will be provided on our overnight camping affair. Please inform Josie and Amber of any dietary restrictions well in advance so proper meal planning can be made. Snacks, lunches, and hydration are the responsibility of each camper throughout the week.

“It is good to have an end to journey toward, but it is the journey that matters in the end” Ursula K. LeGuin.
