This spring, The New School is offering several afterschool programs, open to the public. At the end of January, we begin a six-week course in crocheting, suitable for beginners and novices. You can sign up for classes ala carte or save on material costs by reserving your spot for the full course.
Learn how to choose and read patterns, acquire materials, assemble pieces, and finish projects with step-by-step instructions and support along the way! This course will be taught in the style of the working bees from our history. The instructor will demonstrate a skill, then attendees will be given “workshop” time to practice their new skills. Over the course of six weeks, we will have the opportunity to fine-tune our skills and build a friendship afghan using more advanced patterns.
Classes run from 3:30-5:00 PM at The New School, 38 York Street, Kennebunk. Open to ages 13+. Only 12 spots available, so register early!
Full 6-week course costs $140 and includes all material costs.
Single sessions cost $20 and do not include any materials.
This series of classes runs on (most) Tuesdays between January 30th and March 12th). Classes are:
Week 1 (Tuesday, January 30): Choosing a Pattern & Materials
Week 2 (Tuesday, February 6): Pattern Notes & Gauge
Week 3 (Tuesday, February 13): Learning Crochet Shorthand
Week 4 (Tuesday, February 27): Pattern Stitches & Practice
Week 5 (Tuesday, March 5): Blocking
Week 6 (Tuesday, March 12): Assembly and Borders
There is also a drop-in opportunity during the workshop time (4:00-5:00PM) for participants that aren’t interested in the skills instruction, but would like to join a like-minded community of crafters to work on their own projects. Drop-in cost for a workshop session is $15.
