The Return of the Robotics Team

Our award-winning and incredibly fun robotics competition team returns for a new season! Teams of high school students compete in building industrial-sized robots to play difficult field games and ally with other teams. Are you between the ages of 13 and 18? Interested in STEM? Robotics? Coding? Just building things? DO YOU LIKE ROBOTS? (They are pretty awesome.) Yes? Contact our Robotics Coach, MaryBeth Luce and get signed up! The team is a safe place — members of the LBGTQ+ community are encouraged to reach out if they are interested!

The New School’s 23-24 Annual Report is Available

Our Annual Report went out in the mail last week and, if you haven't seen it yet, you're in for a treat. Inside you'll find a recap of the school year: classes, travel, community activism and engagement, financial highlights, and more! Did you know that Outta the Box provided nearly a third of TNS' revenue to support our school's mission? Between them, donations, and grants, make up almost half of the school's income. Additional fundraising events, like the two dinners hosted last school year, brings that up to half, balanced by tuition income. If you haven't seen your copy [...]

Practices are held on Mondays and matches are held on Thursdays throughout February, March, and April. Finals will be held during the last week of April. Our eSports athletes are required to be in good academic standing — attendance and grades — with their school or homeschool in order to play in [...]

Build a Robot!

We're looking for students to join our FIRST Robotics Competition team. If you are in grades 9-12 (and/or homeschooling) and are in the ages of 14-18, you are invited to join us! In the sport, teams of students build and program industrial-sized robots to play a difficult field game against other teams. It's as close to real-world engineering as a student can get! We'll be building a robot in January and February, getting it ready for our competitions in March. There is no fee for participants. Practices will be at the Maine Mall on [...]

Learn Crochet!

This spring, The New School is offering several afterschool programs, open to the public. At the end of January, we begin a six-week course in crocheting, suitable for beginners and novices. You can sign up for classes ala carte or save on material costs by reserving your spot for the full course. Learn how to choose and read patterns, acquire materials, assemble pieces, and finish projects with step-by-step instructions and support along the way! This course will be taught in the style of the working bees from our history. The instructor will demonstrate a skill, then attendees will be [...]
